How many boards should I bring?

This is entirely up to how much excess baggage you are willing to pay for! We have storage for them all on board but check with your airline first. Most people bring 2-4 boards. Mid length boards and guns generally get used and occasionally the short boards get pulled out. If you are going to bring an extra board we would suggest a replacement for the board you will use the most as it is not uncommon to break boards. Remember to bring extra leg ropes and tropical surf wax.

What do you suggest I pack?

Besides yourself and your surfboards, we recommend that you at least try to bring the following items:

  • 2 or 3 pairs of board shorts
  • Some t-shirts
  • Booties
  • Solarez - the type with rovings in it.
  • Spare leg ropes
  • Rash vests
  • Tropical surf wax
  • Spare fins & Keys, spare plugs and screws if you have FCS system
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Mosquito repellent

Yes! No problems.

Do you have photography equipment on board?

Yes, onboard TENGIRRI we do. We have a high quality SLR digital camera with 100-400mm zoom lens, to capture all those epic waves, trophy fish, smiles, and good times. Our chef/guide will shoot the photos then you can watch the slideshow that night. Photos can then be burnt onto a CD and purchased at the end of the trip – the ultimate trip souvenir. We do not have a video camera onboard but are happy to record footage if you bring a video camera along.

Can you give me an idea of how many other people I'll be surfing with?

Air aim is to spend the majority of our trips surfing with just the people onboard the TENGIRRI (maximum 8). This is not always possible but there are plenty of waves in this area and due to our extensive experience we know how to be in the right place at the right time while still avoiding major crowds. While it is inevitable that we will come across other surfers from time to time you can rest assured you will get plenty of waves.

Some other things to think about:

  1. TENGIRRI CARRIES A MAXIMUM OF 8 SURFERS - Most surf charter boats in Sumatra carry 10 to 12 surfers … then they drop anchor at surf spots next to 2 or 3 other boats. Why travel halfway around the world to surf with a crowd? A group of 4 can charter TENGIRRI for their own exclusive use and we will take you away from the crowds - definitely the way to go!!!
  2. HUGE VARIETY OF PERFECT UNCROWDED WAVES CLOSE AT HAND - TENGIRRI is based in Padang and we have access to at least 4 different island chains and countless perfect waves.
  3. THE SURF HERE IS ULTRA CONSISTENT - Lefts and rights that work in all tides and opposite wind directions, virtually guaranteeing offshores everyday.
  4. TENGIRRI IS DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY BY SURFERS FOR SURFERS, FOR SURF EXPLORATION.
